Carrie Emma

Carrie is a British artist, born and raised in the stunning rural countryside of southern England. She grew up surrounded by acres of magical woodlands, beautiful rolling hills and small historic villages scattered with medieval thatched, stone cottages and churches dating back to the 11th century. Carrie spent her childhood meandering through miles of winding lanes on her horse, soaking up the tranquillity and absorbing the natural beauty of the world around her.

"My rural upbringing profoundly influenced me. With so much chaos, turbulence and destruction in the world today, I need to find a way to stay positive and, for me, this means getting into my studio and doing what I love to do - creating some beauty, some happiness and some joy. By doing so, my hope is that others can and will benefit from my work.

The creative process is physically and mentally demanding, full of raw emotion and passion that requires my all. I work intuitively and thoughtfully, yet it is usually spontaneous. My paintings are about process; one mark leads to the next and each canvas is revisited numerous times, adding layers of depth and tonal value. I'm constantly inspired by nature. I can't walk my dog without finding something beautiful that captures my attention and I always have to stop and take a picture. I'm obsessed with colours, drips, patterns, texture and the pure freedom of movement and aesthetic balance that is continually found in nature."

Carrie graduated from the prestigious Central Saint Martins School of Art and Design in London with a degree in fashion and print. She was a senior print artist for a designer in New York City for many years.

It was after leaving this career to raise her family that she broadened her artistic realm and focused on painting. Her contemporary abstract works have been exhibited and sold nationally and internationally. Her work is dazzling, rich and always infused with joy. It is often described as happy, serene and magical.

Carrie has more recently begun painting custom house portraits. These delicate water colour and pen illustrations are proving popular as beautiful, bespoke gifts for an array of clients for house warmings, birthdays, anniversaries, holiday cards, or simply as a unique keep-sake for a lovely home.

In addition to creating her own artwork, Carrie shares her talents with local children in inspiring after-school programs.

Carrie lives in the United States, with her husband, their two children and their rescued terrier, Wolfie.
